HAAS VF-4 Machining Center
The Haas VF-4 vertical machining center is a mainstay of AAM Competition’s in-house CNC machining. Our VF-4 is loaded with the features and additional options necessary to lead the aftermarket automotive machining industry.
The Machining Center has 50" x 20" x 25" (1270 x 508 x 635 mm) xyz travels and is built utilizing all American-made cast-iron components. The VF-4 is a rugged VMC that yields full reliability and accuracy. The VF-4 has a 40-taper cartridge spindle driven by a 20 hp vector Dual-Drive (Y-Delta) motor. The VF-4 produces 75 ft-lb of torque at a low 1400 rpm, or 250 ft-lb at 4500 rpm with the optional 2-speed gearbox -- and will also run up to 10,000 rpm in 1.5 seconds for finishing aluminum. And since the VF-4 accommodates multiple zero positions, multiple parts can be machined limited only by space on the fixture.
Options that set our VF-4 apart include 10,000rpm Spindle with vector drive, 24+1 Side Mount Tool changer, Auger style chip conveyor, Infrared Probing System, HID Lighting, Auto cooling, and Rigid tapping.
The Side Mount Tool Changer makes our production even more efficient. Relocating the tool changer outside the work environment frees up work space while adding greater flexibility. More tools, more work space and faster tool changes: these advantages together net more productivity and reduced setup times for us, which directly translate to extra productivity and reduced costs of high-end components for our customers.
HAAS TL-1 Tool Room Lathe
Teamed up with our VF-4, is the HAAS TL-1. With a functional range from manual turning to full CNC, the Haas TL-1 Lathe features an operating system that makes cutting parts and creating part programs nearly effortless. The T-L1 combines the functionality and simplicity of a manual lathe with the power and flexibility of a full CNC system.
The TL-1 operates in four modes. In all modes, the Haas control provides extremely accurate digital read-out (DRO) of position, displayed to 0.0005" when using the manual handwheels, or to 0.0001" when using the electronic jog handle.
In manual mode, the X and Z axes are moved via standard handwheels. In semi-automatic mode, the TL-1 performs simultaneous linear interpolation for both axes using a single jog handle. ID/OD chamfers and tapers, for example, are easily cut in semi-automatic mode. In automatic mode, built-in machining cycles (both single- and multi-pass) are available for rough and finish profiling, chamfering, grooving, parting off, threading, drilling and tapping. In full CNC, the TL-1 is programmed using standard G code, and all axis motion is regulated by the Haas control via a G-code program.
Difficult or impossible operations on some manual machines, such as radii, tapers, profiles, grooving, ID and OD threading, and rigid tapping, are all possible here at AAM on the TL-1.
RMC V-40 Block Machining Center
Not only are we able to custom machine CNC billet pieces, we are also able to fully blueprint, sleeve, bore and hone engines for both street and race setups.
Using our RMC V-40, a true simultaneous 4-axis, PC based, CNC- Controlled machining center equipped to handle precision engine blueprinting and rebuilding, our engineers will custom machine your block to blue print specification or to any custom specification requested. Utilizing an infrared laser probing system, the RMC V-40 CNC-controlled engine machining center will inspect your block and automatically determine the bore size and amount of machining needed to meet custom specifications we’ve programmed for you. The V-40’s True Blueprinting Fixture offers quick, easy, and accurate set-up for performance block machining. The fixture maintains a true crankshaft to camshaft relationship for correct alignment of all surfaces. AAM’s machining process far surpasses the industry standard of .003 machine tolerance. Eliminating human error from the machining process, AAM CNC machining provides up to a super precise .00015 machine tolerance - and this is verified on every engine using our infrared laser probe.
Sunnen SV-10 Vertical Hone
Teamed with the RMC V-40 is the Sunnen SV-10 Vertical Hone.
The SV-10 is injected with power, precision, durability and advanced technology to deliver state-of-the- art performance for our customers. The SV-10 is power packed with two motors, one for the spindle and one for the stroker. This combination provides the SV-10 the muscle to run a Diamond Honing System (yes, we said Diamond!) with multi-point cutting action, plus a full array of CK tooling.
The SV-10 also features a Full Bore Profile Heads-up Display, Mechanical Power Stroking System, and Variable Speed Independent Spindle and Stroke Drives. The patented Full Bore Profile Display is projected on a touch screen heads-up display. This real time graphical display of the bore cross section allows our engineers to dwell in the exact position where the bore is visually smaller; there’s no need for guesswork.
What makes this Hone unique? The automatic power stroking system provides us with superior control and ensures consistent crosshatch angles and surface finish, cylinder after cylinder, block after block. This air-free mechanical system is superior to air-over-oil pneumatic systems which can leak and are affected by temperature - which can cause inconsistency in the bore due to "spongy" stroke. With the advanced stroking system our engineer can dwell in any part of the bore – top, middle or bottom – selectively removing stock for the straightest, roundest bore possible. And the variable speed independent spindle and stroke drives allow an infinitely variable crosshatch angle for any bore diameter and cylinder length.
